Juxtaposition Arts

Juxtaposition Arts & Red Wing

A capsule collection co-created by Juxtaposition young artists & Red Wing.

Juxtaposition Arts (JXTA) is a non-profit youth art and design education center in North Minneapolis. Their mission: engage and employ young urban artists with hands-on art, design, and professional learning experiences that create pathways to self-sufficiency while actualizing creative power. I was lucky enough to be a JXTA student over 20 years ago — and I credit them for helping turn my passion for graffiti art into a professional career. Needless to say, this project hit close to home and was an honor to work on.

This project functioned as a real world learning experience for JXTA students as they designed a capsule collection and the marketing campaign to support it. 100% of sales went to JXTA.

Art, Not Ads: The Billboard Campaign

To get the word out, the JXTA team decided to push art in place of ads. We procured a number of billboards in high traffic locations and, instead of putting up ads, we replaced ads with art created by JXTA apprentices, alumni, and friends.
